As the United States of America tackles the debt crisis, white house officials have injected some humour by tweeting a link to 80s pop star Rick Astley amidst an online debate on the economy.
During the online Q and A session with White House staff on Twitter, disgruntled David Wiggs complained that the correspondence wasn’t as entertaining as one held the previous day.
@whitehouse responded with ‘’Sorry to hear that. Fiscal policy is important, but can be dry sometimes. Here’s something more fun,” before posting a link to Astley’s 1987 hit ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.
The art of ‘Rickrolling’ has been a popular internet meme for several years, where unsuspecting victims click on a link only to be redirected to a music video of the song.
While some people championed the light-heartedness of the White House, others would have preferred the link for ‘One Night in Paris’.
The U.S government is not having an easy time trying to resolve their debt crisis; it emerged last week that technology firm Apple has more cash than the U.S treasury. Perhaps Obama should start selling smart phones.
