delayed snail raceWith the olympics approaching ever nearer, the rather colourful soles of Norfolk are priming their competitive spirits by cheering on snails. But it’s not even just Norfolk folk “I have shelled out to be here and it’s well worth it,” John Diksa from Japan stated, sparking its Global popularity.

Each contestant has to bring their own snails as an organizer rightly admitted that they all look alike. Each is then given a number and at one end of the 13-inch track. The record is a whole two minutes, which was set a decade ago. The rain on the day only made the conditions better for the snails meaning that they could move faster even though it delayed the race by 20 minutes. The winner this year won in 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Better luck next year snails you won’t make the 2012 yet.
