Bad news for narcissistic social media whores – it seems selfies are now more dangerous than sharks. Kind of.
Whether it’s falling off rocks, being electrocuted or tumbling down the steps of the Taj Mahal, more people have died from taking selfies (12) this year than have been chewed up and spat out by sharks (8) – which by the dodgy logic of most news outlets means it’s a more deadly pastime.
Of course, this doesn’t take into account other factors, such as the fact that billions more people take photos of themselves than go swimming in shark-infested waters, or the relative stupidity of the person taking the photo. Take the example of a boy in Russia from a few weeks ago. The gun-toting teen tried to take a photo of himself while holding a pistol – and promptly shot himself in the head. Remember kids: intelligence saves lives.
