DESPITE previously offering guest star roles to Larry Hagman, Gary Busey and George Takei, The Simpsons apparently turned down David Beckham for a role on the show – because he wasn’t famous enough.
Seeing as he’s arguably the most widely recognised sports person in the world,(though testosterone-driven Tiger Woods may pip him), it’s probably more accurate to say he isn’t famous enough in America.
“I had to phone David Beckham to tell him sorry – I didn’t think he was a big enough star for an American audience,” said Executive producer Al Jean. “I got a lot of grief about that.”
Considering most Brits had no idea who Dennis Rodman was either before Celebrity Big Brother shoved him down our throats, maybe they’ve got a point. And what do you mean you still don’t know who Dennis Rodman is?
