Freddys-not-deady“Hello it is me, Freddy Mercury… I joking, he died of AIDS.” These were the words uttered by Borat star Sasha Baron Cohen back in 2005 at the MTV Europe Music Awards when he donned some lycra and imitated the late Queen front-man. But it seems that this little stunt may have paid off as Cohen is set to play the Fredster in an upcoming film about the band’s rise to success and their poignant performance at Live Aid in 1985. Due to commence filming in 2011, the film will be written by Peter Morgan, the award-winning British scriptwriter who specialises in biographical films including The Queen, Frost/Nixon, The Damned United and The Last King Of Scotland under his belt. It has been reported that the film will not feature Mercury’s Aid’s related death in 1991 – either way we’re excited and we’re sure this is going to be a great film – however it will be odd trying to take Sasha Baron Cohen seriously…but we don’t envy him trying to imitate Mercury’s vocals as they certainly were unique.
