ARE kids getting thicker or are the questions in tests just getting harder? Well, considering one in 10 children believe Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story was the first man on the moon, we’d guess it’s the former.
In a new poll to celebrate the beginning of National Science and Engineering Week, a thousand children at primary and secondary schools were asked a variety of science-based questions. Most of which they got very wrong.
In addition to our nation’s kids’ lack of space knowledge, almost one third believe Sir Isaac Newton discovered fire, while one in 10 space cadets are also under the impression that the Queen invented the telephone.
Hilariously, other answers to that last question included Ringo Starr and Noel Edmonds. Ridiculous, since everyone with half an education knows that Ringo Starr invented the talking steam engine.
