Finally the result and upset that we were waiting for (well everybody except the Australians we would assume anyway!)
Hot favourites to brush aside an Irish side that had laboured to an unimpressive win against the USA last week, the Wallabies failed to ignite in Auckland on Saturday night. Robbie Deans and his coaching staff will have been horrified at the way their forward pack was destroyed evoking memories of their quarter final exit in 2007 when England obliterated their scrum. A 15-6 Ireland win meant that the best place to be on Saturday night was probably Dublin city centre.
Elsewhere, the New Zealanders and South Africans started cranking through their gears to find some form and run up big scores against Japan (83-7) and Fiji (49-3) respectively.
England downed Georgia after a week when their captain, Mike Tindall was implicated in – shock horror – drinking night out with the boys while a two bit tramp tries to snare herself a rugby player. Quite frankly – we are stunned and appalled. I mean Mike Tindall?! Have you seen him? Surely she could have done better?
Wales recovered from their defeat to the Springboks by sneaking past the tough tackling Samoans 17-10 and help keep their knockout hopes alive. Samoa’s centre, Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu decided to take to Twitter after the game to vent his frustration over the rest period between games. Unfortunately he decided not to choose his words very careful… “It is obvious the IRB is unjust. Wales get seven days, we get three. Unfair treatment, like the holocaust, like apartheid. F*** U.”
Erm…not quite sure we can agree with you on that one pal. But good luck against Fiji all the same…
