“DUH DA-DA DUH! DUH-DUH DUUUUUH! DA-DA-DA-DA DUH DUH! DUH DA-DA-DA DUH!”633809346763277545-TheaTeamIt doesn’t really work in print but that was the unmistakable theme from beloved 80s TV series turned Hollywood Blockbuster The A-Team – one of the weirdest premises for a TV show ever.
Top tune, great catchphrases, random appearance by Boy George – there were so many things to love about Hannibal’s gang and their weekly antics.
BBM’s personal highlight was the bit in every episode where The A-Team would become besieged in a shed or garage surrounded by heavily armed bad guys. Cue a montage of The A Team welding, nailing bits of wood together and eyeing up vegetables. Five minutes later, they come out in a custom-armoured jeep firing projectile cabbages at bad guys with machine guns.
Well one farmer in China has clearly been inspired by this MacGyver-style problem-solving technique.
When a bunch of heartless property developers tried to evict Yang Youde from his home, he took the A Team approach and built a homemade cannon from pipes, fireworks and a wheelbarrow to shoot at people who came near his front door. Yang Youde has already fended off two eviction attempts with his improvised weapon.
“I shot only over their heads to frighten them,” he said. “I didn’t want to cause any injuries.”
The first eviction team attacked him in February after his rockets ran out, but local police came to his aid.
In fending off the second assault in May, he held off 100 people by firing his weapon from a makeshift watchtower.
