We knew all our weekly jolly jaunts to our local curry house were a good thing!
Nerds at Leicester University have discovered that an ingredient found in turmeric coloured curry dishes called curcumin could well be a decent cure for cancer. Cucurmin, acts as an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties, and has traditionally been used as an alternative remedy for liver disease, digestive disorders, acne and a range of allergies. But now, it is thought that curcumin could well be a good treatment for bowel cancer.
Chief investigator Professor William Steward, director of the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) at the University of Leicester commented on the discovery saying, “Once bowel cancer has spread it is very difficult to treat, partly because the side effects of chemotherapy can limit how long patients can have treatment. The prospect that curcumin might increase the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapy is exciting because it could mean giving lower doses, so patients have fewer side effects and can keep having treatment for longer.”
So BBMers, go forth and put your face in a curry on a daily basis. We insist.
