Plasticine face-come-dictator Muammar Gaddafi has gone on the run as rebel forces have risen up in Libya’s six-month-old civil war. As tanks protect the leader’s compound in central Tripoli against the rebels, it is said that two of Gaddafi’s sons have been detained but the whereabouts of the country’s ruler are not known. Rebel forces are said to have removed the green flag symbolizing Gaddafi’s 42-year rule, and replaced it with the rebel tricolour one. World leaders have urged Gaddafi to give up, but as no one knows where he is – although most reckon he’s kicking back, maxing relaxing pimp stylee in the compound – it’s creating a somewhat Sadam/Osama situation.
As rebel forces surge their way through Libya, it is thought that pro-Gaddafi forces now only have control over 15-20% of Tripoli. Egypt have said that they will recognize the rebel government, and as Western leaders tell Gaddafi to go, China have also said they will recognize which-ever government the Libyan people choose. As heavy gunfire remains in Libya, jubilant crowds are said to have gathered in central Green Square, previously the scene of nightly pro-Gaddafi demonstrations.
Barack Obama commented, “The momentum against the Gaddafi regime has reached a tipping point. Tripoli is slipping from the grasp of a tyrant,” UK Prime Minister David Cameron also threw in his tuppence saing it was clear that “the end is near for Gaddafi”. Ensightful…he also commented saying the Libyan leader had “committed appalling crimes against the people of Libya and he must go now to avoid any further suffering for his own people”.
Generally we’d kind of say it’s time for Colonel Gaddafi to do one as it looks like the Libyan people have had quite enough of his bollocks.
