Scientists think that rising greenhouse emissions could alert aliens to our existence as a threat.
Shawn Domagal-Goldman from Nasa’s Planetary Science Division and colleagues from Pennsylvania University have been compiling a list of possible outcomes that may occur in the event of a close encounter with another life form.
The dramatic scenario might happen if extraterrestrials believe humans are becoming out of control and need to be killed off to protect the universe.
More positive outcomes from the report titled ‘Would Contact with Extraterrestrials Benefit or Harm Humanity?’ see us homosapiens overcoming an aggressive alien attack, or even being helped out by another alien race.
Alternatively, they might come across the X Factor or Big Brother and decide we are not quite ‘intelligent life’.
