Euro 2012 Red CardWelcome Euro 2012. After a dance heavy opening ceremony full of colours and stuff, the football kicked off to give us two games we know will be much better than England’s whole competition. Host Poland were held to a 1-1 draw with 2004 winners Greece as there were two red cards and a penalty miss. Defender Papastathopoulos (try pronouncing that) was sent off for the Greeks, and goalkeeper Szczesny (and that) for the Poles, who in the aftermath saved a penalty from captain Karagounis after Robert Lewandowski and Dimitris Salpingidis had scored respectively for both teams.
In the second game of the group, Russia showed who was boss in this group after a 4-1 thrashing of Czech Republic. Arsenal maestro Andrey Arshavin, who many Arsenal fans know as the lazy holidayer on the left wing in North London, was the star of the show with several brilliant passes and runs to give Arsenal fans headaches, with his club teammate Tomas Rosicky suffering on the Czech side. A double from Alan Dzagoev, clever chip from Roman Shirokov and a powerful finish from substitute Roman Pavlyuchenko helped them to the win, with the Czech’s finding solace through Pilar’s goal.
So with the Euro’s up and running with this fantastic game, we look forward to Holland and Portugal on Saturday.
