Walk into any pub with a football game on and the question on everyone’s lips is: “what’s Barry Hayles up to nowadays?”
Well wonder no more, good people. Apparently the former Fulham striker is still playing at the ripe old age of 43, albeit it at a semi-pro level with Truro City. No great shakes, you might think, but that’s where you’re wrong – because he lives in Kent and thus has to make a 550-mile round trip just to get to home games. Now that’s dedication to the game.
“The chairman has a luxury mobile homes site and he puts me up in one of the caravans,” Hayles told The Sun. “It has everything I need and does me just fine. Losing a game for Truro hurts just as much as losing one in the Premier League. If it didn’t have that effect on me then I wouldn’t keep playing.”
In next week’s episode of footballer’s you’d totally forgotten about: Nikos Dabizas.
