The Sydney Comedy Festival brings a month of fun from 18 April to 15 May. This year’s lineup lives up to the festival’s reputation as Sydney’s biggest annual comedy event. There are hundreds of excellent comedians to choose from but here are the best Irish comedians you can’t miss.

Andrew Maxwell

Well-versed in social commentary and political satire, Andrew Maxwell pulls apart the densest world news into shrewd and hilarious observations. The two-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee’s recent credits include Drunk History and RI:SE. Catch Maxwell at The Factory Theatre from 27 to 30 April.

David O’Doherty

A stand-up comedian by night and a children’s book author by day, David O’Doherty is one of the most anticipated acts in the Sydney Comedy Festival. The ‘broken Bublé’ will bring 70 minutes of laughter and songs on 17 April at The Enmore Theatre. Tommy Tiernan

Tommy Tiernan’s 20-year career in stand up includes sold out shows and awards from all over the world, but his fiery passion and no-nonsense candour remain true. You can expect a mesmerising performance from him at The Enmore Theatre from 21 to 22 April.
