Damn, that Williams got some muscle packin’ there! But in a tournament dominated by the William’s sisters so often, one of them won it again! But nevertheless, it was another good tournament for the ladies of Wimbledon after a 2-1 win by Serena Williams over Agnieszka Radwanska (try pronouncing that!) in the final summed up an exciting women’s finals. After straight forward wins against world number 2 Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber, both women powered through the finals as many other well-known figures slumped in earlier rounds.
Williams also beat another higher ranking with victory over number 4 Petra Kvitova, who had been hyped up before the tournament as another new potential Wimbledon victor. But it was world number 1 Maria Sharapova who fell to a 2-0 defeat in the fourth round to Sabine Lisicki which proved quite the shock in the women’s tournament. Former great Kim Clijsters was defeated by Kerber in the fourth round easily 6-1 6-1 to go out without much dignity, but the furthest Brit in the ladies tournament Heather Watson only lasted three rounds after going out to Radwanksa. At least we can say that she lost to the finalist, so us Brit’s aren’t too bad after all!
So the ladies tournament proved to heat up just as much as the Men’s, but it’s the Olympics for now as Andy Murray and Heather Watson look to go for Gold.
