The Six Nations got off to an explosive start on Saturday with both England and Ireland recording convincing victories.
Ireland travelled to the Millennium Stadium in Wales knowing the Welsh were struggling with form and confidence after losing their previous four matches. Brian O’Driscoll conjured a vintage performance as Wales were taken apart 30-22 despite late signs of a potential comeback.
England were in fine form at Twickenham as they registered an opening day win of 38-18 against a Scotland side made to look average on the day. Billy Twelvetrees was impressive on his debut as flyhalf Owen Farrell recorded an impressive 18 points.
Italy were perhaps the surprise of the opening weekend as they beat France 23-18 at the Stadio Olympico. Italy, who have struggled in their previous Six Nations outings, were sharp with Sergio Parisse particularly impressive.
