With the first game of the top European competition already taking place, we now look forward to what promises to be an
exciting second round of fixtures.
The pick of the bunch being the star studded squad of Manchester City hosting the current European champions Bayern Munich at the Etihad. Meanwhile Arsenal welcome Napoli in the ‘group of death’ match to North London.
Same as with the first week, where I achieved two perfect scores and one correct result prediction, I will again try to guess the scores as accurately as possible, so see if you can match it:
Manchester City vs Bayern Munich – Wednesday (2-2)
This is going to be a fascinating fixture, just as the friendly was at the Allianz Arena in the summer, when the German side ran out comfortable winners. With the shock defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend, The Blues will be raring to make amends for the fans.
But this is the European champions after all, the Bavarian treble winning history makers, managed by one of the best coaches in the world in Pep Guardiola, and featuring an array of attacking talent such as Franck Ribery, Mario Gotze and Arjen Robben, while providing tactical nous with the likes of experienced pro’s such as Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Arsenal vs Napoli – Tuesday (2-1)
The group of death promises to provide another twist tomorrow, as it will throughout the Winter when the current table toppers of both the English Premier League and the Italian Serie A cross swords at the Emirates on Tuesday. Arsenal have been in fantastic form of late, winning twelve away from home in all competitions. Even though their home record isn’t as prolific, they still have a great chance of coming away with all three points.
However, Napoli have started the season well and have an abundance of strength and skill with summer Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain leading the line.
Ajax vs AC Milan – Tuesday (1-3)
With eleven Champions League titles between them, these are among the most decorated teams in Champions League history. Despite this, in recent times they have lost their pedigree as two of the leading forces in Europe, but it still offers an exciting match-up. Mario Balotelli and Alessandro Matri should combine to give an away victory for the Italian outfit, however Ajax at home could spring a surprise.
Celtic vs Barcelona – Tuesday (1-2)
Last season it provided one of the highlights of the tournament as another famous night shone down from the Celtic Park floodlights as goals from Tony Watt and Victor Wanayama gave the Hoops one of the greatest results in their history against possibly the best side of all time with the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi. The brilliant side will want revenge, despite injuries to superstar Messi and a host of defenders, they should still have enough with Neymar on show.
Shaktar vs Manchester United – Wednesday (1-2)
Moyes’s side are really struggling at the start of the 2013-14 season after Sir Alex Ferguson left the post, this wasn’t evident more then on Saturday when Old Trafford was silenced with a 2-1 defeat to mid table side West Brom. So the tails will be up for the Red Devils who will hope to bounce back with a win.
