With another weekend of top flight action almost upon us we take the brave move of trying to predict the scores in Saturday’s fixtures. After intensive training with Crystal Balls we are fairly confident in our ability so get straight down to the bookies with our predictions in mind. But don’t blame us if it all goes Pete Tong!
Crystal Palace V Arsenal
The entertainment value of the Premier league has been significantly dented after the departure of Ian Holloway as Crystal Palace’s manager (no more references to a scrappy win as “like a dodgy one night stand”). Although Arsenal suffered their first defeat in 13 games midweek this could make hard viewing for Palace fans. Will Marouane Chamakh come back to haunt his former employees by scoring the winner for the Eagles? Absolutely not.
PREDICTION: 0-3
Aston Villa V Everton
So far this season Villa have been fairly unpredictable; beating Arsenal and Man City but losing to Newcastle and drawing with Hull. Everton meanwhile are performing well and sit four points above their former manager Moyes and his new team in the table. This game is likely to be the battle of the Belgian beasts as Benteke (Villa) and Lukaku (Everton) look to continue good goalscoring form.
PREDICTION: 1-1
Liverpool V West Brom
With Suarez now back in the side after recovering from his bout of cannibalism, Liverpool can build on their strong start to the season. West Brom though are unbeaten away so far and will provide a stern test to Liverpool’s title winning credentials. The “incredible sulk” Nicolas Anelka will be hoping to score against his old club while Stevie Gerrard will want to answer back to Sir Alex’s book revelations.
PREDICTION: 2-1
Manchester United V Stoke City
With Ferguson’s autobiography making it even more obvious (if that was possible) that Moyes has big shoes to fill he will be hoping his United side can finally hit top gear this season. With Shrek Rooney and the man with a million passports, Adnan Januzaj, in good form, and Stoke traditional strugglers at Old Trafford this might be the kick start to United’s campaign. Or Kenwyne Jones could score a last minute winner for Stoke?
PREDICTION: 2-0
Norwich V Cardiff
Cardiff will be hoping to emulate Norwich’s steady Premierleague progress in their debut season in the top flight. With both teams mixing strength and skill it is likely to be a tight game and we are going that extra yard in predicting it will be a set-piece winner. What is for certain though is with East Anglia taking on Wales there are likely to be some funny accents in the stands for this one.
PREDICTION: 0-1
Southampton V Fulham
Southampton have been in great form so far this season while Fulham have struggled. The cottagers (most awkward nickname in football?) did win their last outing against Palace which included not one but two goal of the season contenders, but with Southampton proving increasingly difficult to beat and possessing new England talisman Rickie Lambert up front the Saints will start favourites.
PREDICTION: 2-2
