HavanaDespite both players having retired years ago, the rivalry between Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi was turned up a notch last year with the release of Agassi’s autobiography, in which he accused Pistol Pete of being a tight-arse for only tipping $1 for valet parking.
It got worse during a doubles match the two were playing in alongside Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
Things got ugly when the two Americans took their banter too far.
In response to a comment from Agassi, Sampras did a spot-on imitation of Agassi’s pigeon-toed walk. Agassi then turned his pockets inside out and said: “I don’t have any money. No, wait, I’ve got a dollar.” Before adding: “It’s all fun and games until somebody gets hurt, huh?”
Pissed-off Pete then fired a serve at Agassi’s head, saying: “If that’s the way you want to play it.”
“You know what, it’s better than being a valet driver and you pulling up.” And when Sampras said: “You got personal with me,” Agassi replied: “No, no, everybody knows it already, Pete. Nothing personal.”
Nothing classier than airing your dirty laundry in public, is there?
