Not only did Rory McIlroy win the U.S. Open at 22 years of age, he did so in a world record setting score of 16-under-par through 72 holes, leading second place by eight shots. He wasn’t done, however.

Giving British golf fans yet another reason to boast, McIlroy has jumped from fourth to third place in the world rankings without even taking a shot.

Perhaps credit is due to former third-place, Martin Kaymer, whose flop at the BMW International in Munich allowed Rory’s advancement.

This means British golfers occupy the top three rankings, for the first time in history. England’s Luke Donald holds the top position with Lee Westwood securing second place.

The young McIlroy looks to have plenty of promise. Here’s to hoping for Britain’s version of Tiger Woods, minus the blackbook.
