“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'”
American action man Mark Wahlberg tells Men’s Fitness how that if he had been there, 9/11 would have been a different story.
With an idea that could potentially be made into a Hollywood blockbuster (starring Mark Wahlberg), Wahlberg has single handedly upset millions happily respecting the memories of people lost on that day.
The comment was made when during the interview he was asked about being scheduled to be on the flight from Boston to L.A; the first plane to collide with the World Trade Centre. Wahlberg had fortunately escaped the tragedy when he decided to travel a week earlier to catch a friend’s screening at the Toronto Film Festival.
Many people have taken the comment as meaning that Wahlberg believed the passengers should have been braver, stronger or more caring towards their children. At least those in the first-class cabin anyhow.
To be fair to Wahlberg, he often plays heroic roles in his films and it’s easy enough to begin believing you can do things when you see yourself doing them on screen. Besides, who doesn’t like to imagine themselves saving the day had they been there at the time?
Wahlberg has apologised for his faux pas:
“To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention.”
Hopefully, now we all can start playing the game “If Mark Wahlberg was … he would have…”
I’ll start…
“If Mark Wahlberg was there when they caught Bin Laden it wouldn’t have went down like it did. He would have brought him back along with Kim Jong Il, Fidel Castro and Robert Mugabe, made them apologise then said, “OK, we’re all gonna play a nice game of Catan.”
