Man United got revenge for the recent defeat to their fierce rivals Liverpool in the Premiership with a closely fought 1-0 victory against them in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.
Luis Suarez returned to the first team after a ten game ban for displaying characteristics with a resemblance to those pasty kids in that awful vampire film. All eyes were on the striker, who notched an impressive 30 goals last year. And despite a good away performance, giving the Red Devils a run for their money, Javier Hernandez notched the only goal and gave manager David Moyes a few ideas on who should be picked up front on a regular basis.
After the embarrassing defeats to Liverpool and close rivals Manchester City recently, the Scotsman is already under pressure to perform in the post-Ferguson era and this victory, although in the ‘mickey mouse’ cup, as described by some fans, will keep the negativity at bay for the time being.
Uruguayan international Suarez had a host of creative chances in the game to influence a positive result, but a lack of support from his team mates meant his appetite and hunger to succeed went surpassed. It was a fairly even game and Brendan Rodgers men will take plenty of positives after a great deal of possession and 20 chances on goal, but Manchester United will be happy to progress to the next round where they will face Norwich, again at home.
