Henry VIII famously had a shocker when he first saw his supposedly gorgeous wife Anne of Cleves. Simply put, she didn’t quite match up to the painting. Her life ended with a brutal beheading, a lesson to us all on the importance of honesty, and picking the right husband. Luckily, thanks to the multitude of selfies and tagged photos, this couldn’t possibly happen today. Could it? Well, not the beheading part, but something similar actually has taken place in China.
A Chinese man has divorced and then sued his ex-wife for giving birth to what he shockingly called an extremely ugly baby girl. Jian Feng was so taken aback by the child’s appearance that he was adamant it couldn’t possibly be his, assumingly due to his incredibly good looks. He reasoned it must’ve been a case of infidelity on his wife’s part. About as modest as he is caring then, what a catch. Unfortunately for Jian, a subsequent DNA test proved that the baby was in fact his…Our sympathies lie with the child on that particular outcome.
However, in an unbelievable twist, Feng’s wife admitted there was in fact a good reason for the child’s looks, and it was all down to her. Before the two of them had met, she had undergone about $100,000 worth of cosmetic surgery in South Korea. For someone with such keen detective skills, Jian must be kicking himself now. He reacted by suing his now ex-wife on the grounds of false pretences.
Surely his wife could do the same, granted she ‘tricked’ him into thinking she was beautiful, but surely Jian was equally as false about his wonderful personality… Anyway, incredibly, a judge agreed with Feng’s argument and ordered his ex-wife to pay over $120,000.
Good luck finding another wife, Jian, at least Henry VIII had a title.
