WHILE rioferdinand1the idea of a footballer shagging around has left most of the nation in a state of disbelieving shock, there’s been the small matter of who replaces John Terry as England captain.

And although we sort of welcome Fabio Capello’s immediate decision to strip Terry of the armband (if only to stop all the media hoo-ha that would have dragged on for weeks), we are slightly concerned by the decision to make Rio ‘sorry I was miles away’ Ferdinand then new skipper.

Now really, is giving Ferdinand an extra job really a sensible move? The last time he was asked to multi-task (moving house and a urine test), he ended up banned for eight months.

Giving Rio the England captaincy is kind of like telling a teenager it’s OK to revise for his A-levels in his bedroom with the Pamela Anderson sex tape playing in his bedroom – his mind isn’t going to be on the right job.
