After all the talk of diving and goal line technology in separate weeks of the season, it all came together in this weekend’s football. With Liverpool facing Everton and Chelsea versus Tottenham in the weekend’s FA Cup semi-final line-up, it was left to the Manchester clubs and the relegation battle to do the Premier League justice. In the cup it was Liverpool who were first to the final with a 2-1 win over rivals Everton at Wembley. Andy Carroll (aka Mr £35 million flop) scored the winner, which is being described as the “£35 million pounds goal.” It was just a header, but if they wanna call it that then each to their own! Chelsea joined Liverpool in the final with a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham, with the controversial second Chelsea goal given after replays showed it was nowhere near crossing the line.
In the Premier League Manchester City thrashed Norwich City 6-1 at Carrow Road to gain momentum on leaders United, but Man U thrashed Villa 4-0 as Ashley Young once again showed why he should be a contender for the Olympics instead of Tom Daley. Wigan produced another shock result with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates, and in the heated relegation battle, QPR and Blackburn suffered losses at West Bromwich Albion and Swansea, while Wolves took a point from Sunderland.
So that’s all for another weekend of action from both sides of the table and FA Cup magic (and referees needing specsavers). With only four games to go for most sides, the Premier League is heading for an explosive climax.
