It seems to be that homosexuality is being welcomed in football…sort of.
Anti-homophobia group Stonewall are campaigning for all football players to wear rainbow coloured laces during matches this weekend to embrace the message against homophobia. But it seems as though some clubs and groups are quite against the idea.
Manchester United have chosen not to wear the laces and other equality bodies have hit out at the campaign, stating that wearing rainbow laces “reinforces the very stereotypes and caricatures that, in the long term, ensure that homophobia persists.”
So, they want them to dress up as the village people instead? That’s probably a more fun idea.
Everton are one club that will be participating in the rainbow lace campaign and hopefully Tottenham will join in too; with Yidgate happening of late, it would be good for them to be chanting something else!
