When he’s not “knee deep in clunge” or “up to his nuts in guts”, serial bull-shitter Jay from the Inbetweeners is picking online fights with the son of pencil-necked manager Iain Dowie. No, really. Lifelong Palace fan James Buckley, the actor who plays a character whose usual online time is spent wearing scuba goggles while wanking over eastern European porn, wasn’t exactly thrilled with the prospect of Dowie taking charge of his beloved club.
Then again, who would be? “Iain Dowie in pole position to take palace job? Why? He’s a tried and tested failure,” he posted when Dowie was installed as the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Ian Holloway.
Give someone else a chance over someone we know is bad.” That prompted Dowie’s son, Oliver, to respond with: “Stick to the comedy stuff mate.” That led to an amusing tit for tat online spat where the pair attacked each other with stats in order to convince online Eagles fans that Dowie Snr was either the best thing since Jim Smith, or a stiffnecked bag of shit.
“Stop having a hissy fit every time I mention your dad,” pleads James at one stage, to which Dowie Jnr (who we wish was called ‘Robert’ so we could do Ironman jokes) responded, “stop weighing into discussions about things you don’t know about then.”
Rather childishly/amusingly, James replies with “I know your dad is a bad manager.” And so on and so on – for about an hour – until the pair, seemingly, agreed to disagree. Next week, Ashley Young, who was banned from driving for six months in July, starts a war of words with the actor who plays Simon from the Inbetweeners after being called a “bus wanker” on Twitter.
