Being buried alive is possibly one of the biggest fears we have and something we only see in movies- we hope. But for one Egyptian man, it almost became his reality.
Hamdi Hafez al-Nubi’s funeral was planned for Friday 11th May. He was washed, prepared and ready to go under…until he woke up.
The 28-year-old suffered a heart attack resulting in doctors concluding his death. It wasn’t until a doctor came to sign his death certificate, when she realised his body was still warm.
On hearing the news of her son’s revival, the mother fainted, but the doctor was soon able to wake them both up.
Mourning quickly turned in to a celebratory party with the funeral guests and what was meant to be a sad end turned in to a party full of life.
This is not the first time something so shocking like this has happened. Last month an Australian man was pronounced dead at the scene of a car crash in Melbourne. Police left his body in the Porsche as they began their investigation. It wasn’t until an hour later when emergency services realised he still had a pulse and rushed him to hospital immediately.
Isn’t it crazy that we can’t trust our medics to determine whether we’re dead or not? And we thought doctors were meant to be smart!
So the moral of the story is make sure the person you’re about to bury, is actually dead. And if you’re the person who is supposedly dead and going under, well, good luck, let’s hope you actually are.
