Following a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, and what he admits to be ‘the worst start for quite some time,’ Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has stated his belief that he still has the backing of Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea are now 12 points off first place, and with Guus Hiddink hovering in the background after leaving his job as manager of the Turkish national team, it was rumoured that Abramovich may want to bring in Hiddink to improve Chelsea’s fortunes – just as he did in Feb ‘09 when Luiz Felipe Scolari was sacked mid-way through the season.
But Villas-Boas says this is not the case and that Abramovich didn’t spend 15m euros to get him out of his Porto contract only to spend a fortune sacking him.
Of course, it was stupid to ever question Villas-Boas’ position – Roman Abramovich is known as an owner with immense patience and loyalty towards his managers. Oh wait no, no he isn’t.
