Novak Djokovic crowned the tennis season off by winning the finals in London yesterday evening. He overcame Rafa Nadal who has undergone a resurgence this year after struggling with injuries in recent times. It was a straight sets victory for Djokovic who successfully defended the title he is the incumbent for.
Rafa Nadal, who prefers to play on clay surfaces, went down 6-3 6-4 to the Serb. The victory also gave Djokovic a 22nd victory in a row which the current record for wins in a row for this year.
Nadal was dominant in their previous meeting at the US Open final but it was clear from the off that Djokovic looking to make amends when he raced into a 3-0 lead early on at the first break opportunity. However, he missed the second chance in the fourth game to break Nadal and the Spaniard successfully held his serve.
Djokovic played with an aggressive streak and was soon putting Nadal under pressure again in the eighth game. The intensity of Djokovic’s game was forcing Nadal into uncharacteristic errors as he double faulted at deuce to give the Serb a chance to break. He sealed the 5-3 lead and roared with excitement and soon closed out the set.
Djokovic broke Nadal three times in the second set to reach a 5-2 lead. He was coming up with some big serves and recorded six aces whilst Nadal just about managed to stay in the game. But Djokovic soon served out for the match and win the trophy.
