Dogs can fetch sticks, jump through hoops and even drive cars… guess what they can do now? Get married. Really. Well, not really, but in Sri Lanka the authorities have had a pretty good go at it. The mass wedding of police sniffer dogs caused quite the crowd, and outrage in fact when it took place on a beautiful sunny morning.
It seems some people just don’t like to see true doggy love. That, or the fact that it takes the complete mick out of the sanctity of marriage. Either one. The whole thing was conducted in the style of a Buddhist ceremony, with many symbols and signs alluding to this. They even had a poruwa, a traditional stage that’s usually used in Sinhalese weddings. Some say it’s distasteful, we say it’s the cutest thing we’ve ever seen!
Can you imagine attending a canine wedding? Event of the century, we say. The ‘grooms’ were kitted out in red ties whilst the ‘brides’ wore shawls, hats and mittens. We’re just wondering why OK! Magazine weren’t in attendance to capture the day in soft focus and a full page spread.
According to the police who were in charge of the nuptials, the day was merely a great opportunity to promote the breeding of their sniffer dogs (aww sniffer puppies)… and have a few lols at the same time.
Whatever the reason for this dog-tastic day, we wholly approve and wonder what’s next. Budgie christening? Racoon birthday? Yes please!
