Comic book nerds everywhere dream of having superpowers like the X-Men.
Imagine being able to control the weather like Storm or read people’s minds like Professor X. Even better, imagine being a shapeshifter like Mystique. You’d be able to change into Jennifer Lawrence and make a fortune selling nude pictures of yourself that have been “hacked” from your phone. We wouldn’t be surprised if that’s actually what happened to Jen in the first place.
Alas the truth behind having X-Men powers is a lot less glamorous than Hollywood makes out, as 12-year-old Nikolai Kryaglyachenko found out when he developed Magneto-style control over the forces of magnetism following an electric shock.
Rather than making ships float above water or stopping bullets mid-flight, however, Nikolai has to be content with metal things sticking to his bare body.
“I don’t have a lot of control over it,” he said. “Even when I do not want to do it, I still attract things.” Nikolai even claims he is able to share his power and make other people turn into live magnets as well. Sadly, he was talking total bollocks.
