After years of being associated with Russell Brand, West Ham United fans finally have a link to genuine comedy after the club briefly appeared in an episode of The Simpsons.
A flag with the team’s name on it is seen strewn across the bedroom of a “cool” new neighbour. The only problem is the flag is yellow and green instead of claret and blue, so either the show’s animators haven’t got a bloody clue who West Ham are or it’s actually meant to be a tribute to Norwich City. Considering the characters in The Simpsons are yellow though, we’ll let this minor error slide.
“West Ham United were delighted to be featured in The Simpsons episode ‘The Day The Earth Stood Cool’ on Sunday!” the club said in a generic statement that adds absolutely nothing to the story.
So far the fat Brazilian Ronaldo is the only footballer to have been given a guest spot as himself on the show when he appeared in the season 18th show ‘Marge Gamer.’
Cristiano Ronaldo has also made an appearance, but in an ad for Nike rather than in an episode, while viagra-peddling Pele was lampooned in one show for being partial to the odd endorsement.
A character resembling David Beckham helped cause a British invasion in another episode but Golden Balls himself was deemed ‘not famous enough’ for a full guest star spot in 2010. Considering pop turd Ke$ha got a slot on the show we think that’s a bit rich, but who are we to question the show that brought us such great catchphrases as “Doh!”, “Do the Bartman” and “Yabba dabba doo!”
