Bayern Munich’s quest to replace Barcelona as football’s Mr Nice Guys continued when the club refunded a group of fans who rented out an apartment in a skyscraper next to the Arena Khimki to view their team in action in the Champions League.
The German champions played away to CSKA Moscow but no fans were allowed in due to Russian rowdiness the previous season. Undeterred, over 50 Bavarian fans rented an apartment in a neighbouring building which overlooks the pitch – and their efforts have duly been rewarded by the club.
“The action was made known to us, and my colleague Jan Dreesen (Bayern’s CFO) has indeed paid the rent for the game,” umlauted Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the club’s chief executive.
