The A-League is back good people, and Adelaide United’s doomed quest to turn themselves into a La Liga team has continued with the acquisition of yet another B-rate Spaniard for the team.
And when it comes to pretending to be something you’re not, Sergio Guardiola certainly knows what he’s talking about.
For unlike many of his European peers in the A-League, who couldn’t hack it with Europe’s elite anymore so thought they’d try Australia, the 25-year-old was snapped up by Barcelona just last year. Admittedly it was for Barcelona’s reserve team but it’s still pretty impressive company nonetheless.
Alas, as you might have gathered by the fact that he now plays for Adelaide, his dream move didn’t quite pan out – largely because of a few anti-Catalan tweets he published about Barcelona a few years ago and hoped people had forgotten about.
Sadly, that wasn’t the case and he was swiftly booted out of the club just as quickly as he was hired. If only more top-class footballers published offensive tweets perhaps the A-League standard would get even better.
