Formula 1 Testing began today, and most of the teams have unveiled their new cars and systems for the 2012 season. Red Bull, just to show off, are one of the last to show designs and pictures of their new car, which has received a mixed response from their team. Two-time Winner Sebastian Vettel described the car as ‘extremely comfortable’ which is always good to hear from your driver that whilst hes bombing around at 200 mph he can sit back and relax and let the wheel do the driving. But Red Bull Designer Adrian Newey had described the front of the car as ugly. Ouch!
Newey said “We’ve kept more or less the same chassis shape, but had to drop the nose just in front of the front bulkhead which, in common with many other teams, has led us to a slightly ugly looking nose. We’ve tried to style it as best we can, but it’s not a feature you would choose to put in were it not for the regulation.” You always need that vote of confidence about your car from your team manager, but for the designer to criticise his own work can’t be good surely. Red Bull will be looking for another successful season with Vettel and Mark Webber at the helm once more, but expect a bit more competition from British duo Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton this year.
