It’s a well-known fact in football that when Michael Owen lost his pace, he was finished as a top-class striker.
And there were signs last month that he’s slowed down so much, his reactions are now two hours behind the rest of the world.
The former Real Madrid forward was on hand at Brunton Park for BT Sport’s live coverage of the FA Cup fourth round clash between Carlisle United and Everton. Nothing wrong with that, you might think, he’s got to earn some coin somehow now his career as a treatment-table warmer is over.
But 10 minutes after the match had finished, with the Premier League outfit winning 3-0, Owen tweeted: “Great buzz up here in Carlisle. I’m certain there will be goals in this. KO at 1:30pm on BT Sports 2.” Well the good news is he was right.
The not so good news is he may be losing his marbles. Or possibly just doesn’t know how to schedule Twitter messages.
