It’s always embarrassing emailing someone by accident. Usually the worst that happens is you get one of those “mailer demon” notices or a baffled reply from the person you didn’t mean to communicate with. It’s even worse if you do it with letters rather than emails, like the 24-month period between 2007 to 2009 when BBM accidentally sent hundreds of explicit photos of our own genitals to each member of Girls Aloud. When we explained it was a harmless misunderstanding, the police soon let us go free, with the minor inconvenience of a restraining order and a suspended sentence.
But every now and again, you get an absolute howler of a case of wrong message to the wrong guy that puts BBM’s genital-based indiscretions to shame.
Step forward six porno pedlars in western Japan who have been arrested after mailing their catalogues of filth to the head of the Osaka Police Department by mistake.
Last month police arrested Toshiharu Hidaka, 27, and five other filth-mongers on suspicion of possessing obscene material with the intent to sell it in Osaka.
The suspects had been sending catalogues of illegal porn DVDs to random male customers by mail, and three sets were addressed to the police chief’s house accidentally.
After reviewing the footage for several hours (when his wife was out and with the curtains closed) the police chief called for officers to raid Hidaka’s warehouse of smut in Osaka. He then grabbed some toilet roll to clean himself up and dozed off for half an hour.
Police raided Hidaka’s office and seized about 280,000 uncensored discs as well as 7000 erectile dysfunction pills. Talk about “pulling” an all-nighter.
