Lying via TextingHere’s a tip for you, if you think someone is lying to you- call them up! Apparently a new study has found that if you were to text that certain somebody, they would be able to communicate their lie much easier than by phone call or face to face. Another study has also found that people take longer to text if they are lying.

Brigham Young University found that texts which have a lie in them take longer to write and are shorter than if that person writing the text was telling the truth. They conducted the study using exact measurement and modelling. According to Gizmodo researcher Tom Meservy stated that “Unfortunately, humans are terrible at detecting deception. We’re creating methods to correct that”. So you thought talking through technology would save you from getting caught ey?

The study has been published in ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems and as part of their research asked 100 subjects 30 questions in an texting-style conversation via the use of a computer. Beforehand, they were told to lie in half of their answers. The final result was that 10% took longer whilst composing a lie in a text and took longer to revise them in comparison to when telling the truth.
