It was another intriguing week in the Premier League has there were wins for the two Manchester clubs and along with Chelsea’s frustrating draw with Sunderland. Here are the losers and winners from this week’s action.
Winners
The biggest winners of the week are the blue side of Manchester as they produced an efficient display to dispatch second place saints at St. Mary’s. Southampton have been the surprise package of this season and have won a lot of admirers sitting in second place but were powerless in the end to prevent Manchester City from recording a 3-0 victory. This without relying on Sergio Aguero, who has arguably been a one man team this city and even though he laid on two assists for three of the goals; Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and amazingly Gael Clichy, who netted his first goal for City in over hundred appearances since signing for Arsenal in 2011, were the scorers..
It is enough to think the apocalypse is coming. If that was surprising then Chris Smalling’s goal for Manchester United in their 3-0 thrashing of Hull at Old Trafford would have had people thinking the world was ending. Even so, Louis Van Gaal’s side cemented their place in the top four with the other two goals from Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney.
Losers
The losers of the week are Chelsea has they were frustrated by a resolute Sunderland side at the Stadium of Light and were held to a goalless draw. It may look a good point in the long term but a few feathers were ruffled as Diego Costa, the Chelsea striker was fortunate to escape a red card after altercations with John O’Shea and Wes Brown. However, a result which has allowed Man City to cut the gap to six points at the top and may show that there could be a title race after all.
