As election results go, it wasn’t a bad effort from runner-up candidate Caroline Mitchell in a ballot for the Pennsylvania county last month, but we still think she might want to rethink her career in politics after coming second to a dead woman.
Barbara Daly Danko, 61, died of cancer on 6th May but managed to shrug off that minor setback to win a seat on the Allegheny County Council. The campaigning corpse defeated Mitchell, 5,575 to 4,015.
“Clearly she was well-respected by her constituents, which is pretty much as good as it gets for an elected official,” said Jared Barker, the county council’s chief clerk and director of legislative services.
According to BBM’s sources in Canberra, the Labor party are now thinking about ditching Bill Shorten as leader and replacing him with Gough Whitlam before the next election.
