driven to insanityTaxi drivers in Australia aren’t really a helpful bunch. Whether they’re refusing to give you change for a $50 note from a $38 trip to the airport, or deliberately taking the route through the city with the most traffic lights, they seem to delight in screwing over their passengers as much as possible. Well now we bring you two tales of taxi drivers that show them at their best, and their worst.

In the case of Singapore cabbie Sia Ka Tian, the 70-year-old driver deserves a round of applause after finding no less than $900,000 in the back of his taxi – and taking it straight to the police to return to the couple who left it there. And when we say “couple” we actually mean “pair of twats with more money than sense”.
“When I saw the money, I thought, trouble is here. I was sure there was at least $200,000 in the bag,” he said. “The money is unimportant to me. It doesn’t belong to me, so how can I use it?”

Well done sir, you’ve more than earned your $5 tip for throwing away a chance to retire instead of transporting rich idiots around town for the rest of your life.

And now for another tale of cabbie idiocy, only it’s a little closer to home this time, with news that a taxi driver from Loughborough watched a football match on his smartphone while driving two undercover council officials to a hotel. He also overcharged them.

“Our officers were stunned when this taxi driver decided that watching the big match was more important than the safety of his passengers,” said Jane Hunt, Charnwood Borough Council’s cabinet member for regulatory services. To be fair, if we had two council workers in the back of our car, we’d try and scare the shit out of them too.
