A German grand mother pulled off one of the greatest unintentional practical jokes of all time after being pronounced dead by a doctor, put in a coffin at a funeral home, then springing out of it to startle an undertaker, who duly passed out through shock.
When the funeral director eventually woke from his ordeal, he saw the elderly woman lying in the coffin with both eyes open. If nothing else it proves that watching the living dead spring up unexpectedly is just as humorous as watching them suddenly fall down (otherwise known as Madonna at the Brit Awards). “This is terrible and inexplicable,” wailed Lother Burger, the head of the retirement home where the woman lived and was pronounced dead.
“We are being devoured by the press,we are being pilloried.” It’s still not quite understood how the old prankster slipped through her doctor’s less-than-rigorous screening procedure to determine if someone’s dead or alive. As a general rule of thumb, we find it’s a give-away if they’re breathing and have a heartbeat – which, coincidentally, are the only two attributes a woman needs for BBM to sleep with them.
Sadly, although an ambulance rushed to the funeral home to take the old woman to a local hospital, she fell ill and died a couple of days later. Now, a police investigation is hoping to find out how she was pronounced dead in the first place. It’s been reported that a carer found the woman in bed at the nursing home where she lived, and wasn’t breathing.
A doctor was called to the home, and the woman was pronounced dead before being taken to the funeral directors. Think about that the next time you think about being cremated. An investigation will determine if there had been a failure in recording the woman’s death. We suspect it won’t be a very long investigation.
