A cuddly 6ft 6 inch mascot that goes by the name ‘Katakkuri-Chan’ will be standing guard in a deadly Japanese prison. The round-eyed mascot with a purple floral hat is dressed in a prison guard’s uniform at Asahikawa prison in Tokyo.
Murderers, thieves and rapists alike will no doubt rejoice to see the happy mascot support them on their road to rehabilitation. Bosses at the prison believe that this little fella will allow prisoners to feel understood, in an ‘open society’.
The mascot will even participate in a weekend fair, when Japanese characters are displayed to represents local regions or towns, and promoting popular industries or foods.
Let’s hope he doesn’t get the stuffing beat out of him.
