Chinese student Zeng Jia decided to stage her own funeral service because she wanted to be alive to ‘enjoy it’.
Although most of us would probably say the whole event was slightly morbid, the 22-year-old insists the experience of ‘death’ has made her ‘appreciate life more keenly.’
The elaborate service, had Zeng lying in a white coffin while she held her favourite doll to her chest, the coffin was decorated with row after row of flowers and origami doves hung from the ceiling. She also paid for a photographer and a team of make-up artists in order to make her appear more ‘dead.’
Zeng, from Wuhan in Hubei province, laid in her coffin for an hour as mourners eulogised about her, she then rose to join the mourners for her wake.
Zeng apparently came up with the idea after attending her grandfather’s funeral recently and invited friends and family to witness her own.
‘It struck me that people spend all that time and effort on someone when they are gone and they cannot appreciate it.’
‘I wanted to see what people would think of me so I decided to hold my funeral while I could enjoy it.’
