It’s bad enough that Valencia have to battle Real Madrid and Barcelona on a regular basis, now Batman has decided to have a pop at the La Liga club too.
You’d think the Dark Knight would have enough problems dealing with homicidal clown-faced killers, but apparently he’s just as passionate about cleaning the scum off the streets as he is about brand identity after it was revealed DC Comics are unhappy with the fact Valencia have a bat as part of their logo.
The US-based comic book giant has reportedly filed a complaint with the OHIC – the European Union’s trademark registration body – to grumble about a new variant of Valencia’s logo.
Considering that the image of a bat has been commonly used in Spanish heraldry since the 13th century, and that Valencia have used bats in their club logos since 1919 (20-odd years before Batman existed), Bruce Wayne will probably have to spend a fair few million on lawyers to win this one. Still, maybe if Valencia change their symbol to a cat they might get a visit from Anne Hathaway in skin-tight leather.
Surely it’s worth a shot.
