harry redknappWest Brom were the only team to win away as their incredible run continued this weekend. A 4-2 win at Sunderland was just deserves for a controlled performance throughout. At one point, the Baggies were actually up to third with other teams yet to play, lofty heights that fans and players alike at the club are hoping they can get used to, although dizziness may begin to creep in soon!

Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool all failed to even score a goal in a fairly poor week for the so-called ‘top clubs’. Chelsea and City actually shared the points in Rafa Benitez first game in the Chelsea dugout. Watching paint dry comes to mind as this drab encounter only managed to muster up three chances on goal (and no, none of them fell to Fernando Torres!) 0-0 draws between Swansea and Liverpool, and also between Aston Villa and Arsenal, and a weekend in with the missus and a dose of X-factor looked to be on the cards!

But no, nothing quite gets that bad and a couple of games did make up for what could have been a nightmare.

A Defoe inspired brace and performance by Spurs gave them a great 3-1 win over West Ham, and the same scoreline was replicated at Old Trafford, as table toppers Man United beat QPR. A shock was on the cards early in the second half as the Londoners took a deserved lead, as yet again United conceded first in the league this season. But three goals in eight minutes soon after blasted QPR out of the water in the game but further into the depths of trouble in the league. For their own sake, heres hoping Harry Redknapp can cast his magic once again after landing the managers job!

Without doubt though the game of the day surprisingly came at DW Stadium as unfashionable Wigan beat unfancied Reading 3-2 in a brilliant, free-flowing, and one where Jordi Gomez scored his first ever hat-trick…….with literally the last kick of the game. Goalkeeping errors and basketball stylee, end to end stuff made for a great watch and showed yet again that the Premier League is the best league in the world when it can cook up gems like this one!

In other games this week, Southampton made it two really good wins in a row as they beat hapless Newcastle 2-0, Everton conceded in the final minute to draw 1-1 with Norwich, and Stoke beat Fulham 1-0.
