Barclays Premier LeagueSo we had the Olympic fever that had overshadowed the start of a very promising looking new premier league season, and by god some teams did that as we got two 5-0 thrashings on the first weekend of premier league action.

Fulham gave new Norwich boss Chris Hughton a dreaded 5-0 trouncing at Craven Cottage. New Fulham signing Mladen Petric scored twice on his debut to ensure a solid win for the west-londoners. And QPR, who strengthened so much over the summer, were trounced 5-0 at HOME to Michael Laudrup’s Swansea. The Swans took advantage of some poor defending, with new signing Michu and Nathan Dyer grabbing two each to pour misery on Mark Hughes’ side.

Elsewhere in the premier league, Brendan Rodgers’ start to life at Anfield got off to a terrible start with a 3-0 defeat to West Brom, with Daniel Agger getting a red card fueling speculation about his future again. Arsenal started a frustrating life without Robin Van Persie with a 0-0 draw against Sunderland, with new signing Santi Cazorla looking the part, but Olivier Giroud sending the chance of the match wide to ensure booing at the final whistle. Reading rescued a 1-1 draw with Stoke on their return to the premier league, with West Ham also returning with a 1-0 win over Aston Villa. And Newcastle and Tottenham fought out an intense battle, with the Toon taking a 2-1 victory over AVB’s ‘project’.

On Sunday Chelsea beat Wigan 2-0 with Eden Hazard looking the part with a sensational debut, and Manchester City got their title race on track with a tough 3-2 victory over newly promoted Southampton, going behind at one point until the last 10 minutes before two late goals secured
victory.

So Manchester United vs Everton tonight, let’s be havin’ some more shall we!
