newcastle fansThere are some areas in the world that will always have an aura of mystique and an air of the supernatural. From vampires to sea monsters, places like Transylvania, the Bermuda Triangle and Loch Ness will always be associated with mystery and the unknown. Well now another town can be added to the X-Files-style list of places guaranteed to send a chill down your spine as soon as you mention their name. We’re talking, of course, about Tunbridge Wells.

Apparently an eight-foot tall apeman with demonic, red eyes has been spotted sloping around the Kentish town’s 200-acre common several times in the past month. Police have investigated, but when they discovered that Susan Boyle wasn’t touring in the area they were at a loss to explain the sightings.

According to local community website Tunbridge Wells People, the Kentish Apeman – or British Bigfoot – was first seen 70 years ago during World War Two, but has “now returned”. Sounds like a job for Scooby Doo to us.

The website states that the last sighting took place just three weeks ago on the edge of the woods when the “beast” roared, scaring off a man walking home through the woods.

“The Kentish Apeman has recently been spotted on Tunbridge Wells Common – the exact spot where it was also apparently seen 70 years ago,” the website says. “The beast is reportedly eight-foot tall, has red demonic eyes and is covered in hair.”
BBM experienced something much worse a few years ago when we visited a town in Durham and found ourselves surrounded by gibbering ape-like creatures making unintelligible noises. Luckily, it turned out to be a group of Newcastle supporters on their way to the game, but we still get goosebumps thinking about it.
