It emerged this week that Emmanuel Adebayor is actually still a footballer.
The former Arsenal, Man City, Spurs and Real Madid striker – and Crystal Palace reject – is set to represent his home nation Togo in the African Cup of Nations in Gabon despite not actually playing football at club level. Or any level for that matter. Maybe he’s a ringer for various five-a-side teams at best but seriously, the guy is jobless. Surely Togo can’t be so bereft of talent that they have to enlist a player on past – and we mean past – reputation alone.
Who knows what the guy’s been up to since Palace binned him off for being an absolute waste of wages, but based on his hippy appearance, our bet is that he’s been working in Shoreditch coffee shops constantly trying to get a laugh out of the line “Dya want that ‘ToGo?” to much customer bemusement.
